How do I check my medical reports online in Alberta, Canada?
The province of Alberta is in the process of setting up a Electronic Health Records system but it is far from complete. At this time you cannot access your records online ,but you can request for it to be sent to you by mail or fax. Go to How to Request a Copy of Your EHR for more information. Please note that you will most likely have many sets of medical records, say, one set kept by your doctor, another set kept by Alberta health of any hospital visits you may have had and a set of records from your pharmacist. Add to that any specialists you may have visited. Further complicating the matter is that doctors are not employees of the provincial health system. They are individual contractors who are reimbursed for their services by the province according to a schedule negotiated by the two groups. Therefore how medical records are kept is a choice each doctor makes for themselves, I know that there is no way for me to check my medical records online because they are not online. Every time I see my doctor he lugs a very thick folder with him my paper records. Alberta is in the process of moving to digital records, but has a way to go before that goal is achieved. If you still have a relationship with your doctor, you may have to contact them directly.
